PRINCETON - The Princeton baseball team, winner of five-straight games, looks to continue that streak later today when it heads north to meet in-state rival Seton Hall at 3:30 p.m. The Tigers enter the game after taking all four games from Columbia over the weekend, outscoring the Lions 33-5 and allowing just two earned runs in 34 innings of work.
The performance was just what Princeton needed to climb back into contention in the Gehrig Division standings after the whole division struggled against the Rolfe Division. Princeton is now 5-7 in the league and hold a one-game lead on 4-8 Cornell. Penn (5-11) and Columbia (4-12) are two and three games back, respectively.
But, before the league season continues, Princeton will take on Seton Hall in non-league action later today at Carroll Field in South Orange, N.J. The Tigers and Seton Hall have met one a season every year since 1993 and have traded the last four games, each winning twice. Last season the Tigers picked a 10-0 win over the Pirates at Clarke Field. Andrew Salini and Sal Iacono each had two hits and drove in two runs in the game, while Micah Kaplan had a pinch-hit home run in the game. Three pitchers combined to three-hit the Pirates.
Seton Hall is 11-22 this season and has a 4-11 record in Big East action after being swept at Georgetown last weekend. The Pirates had won three-straight before that, topping Cincinnati twice in league play and Fordham in non-league action. The Tigers and Pirates have not faced any common opponents, although Princeton is 0-0-1 against the one Big East team it faced, when it played to a 3-3 tie at Rutgers.
