PRINCETON - The 20th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team picked up big wins on Saturday against George Washington and Maryland to wins its third-straight Southern Championship and advance to next weekend's Eastern Championship at Brown. The Tigers won their semifinal game 12-6 over GW in the morning, then defeated Maryland 13-4 in the evening for the championship.
In the opening game, Anne-Lise Maag led the Tiger offense with three goals, while Elyse Colgan and Jessica Ajoux each scored twice. Samantha Shaughnessy and Jazmin Brown led the offense in the nightcap with three goals apiece and Colgan added a pair.
The games marked the final home appearances for the three members of the Princeton Class of 2006. The three members - Anne-Lise Maag, Courtney Mee and Megan Donahue - all factored in the scoring for Princeton as their four-year run with the Tigers nears its end. The trio has been a part of three Southern Championship and three ECAC tournament championships, all while winning better than 75% (91-30) of the games played.
The Tigers will continue their season at next weekend's Eastern Championships which will feature the top-two Southern teams (Princeton and Maryland), the top-two Northern teams (Hartwick and Harvard), the top-two Western teams (Michigan and Indiana) and two at-large teams that are still to be determined.
