Princeton Tops Maryland 7-2 in Eastern Opener

PROVIDENCE - The 10th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team began its quest for the 2006 CWPA Eastern Championship with a 7-2 win this afternoon against Maryland in the quarterfinal round. Elyse Colgan and Karina Reyner each scored three goals in the win for Princeton, which advances to face 16th-ranked Michigan later tonight in the semifinals.
The Tigers opened up a 4-1 halftime lead following Reyner's second goal of the game with 46 seconds left in the second quarter and never looked back. The final five-goal differential was the largest of the contest. Carolina Ardila added one goal for Princeton, while Blaise Stanicic and Laurel Laidlaw netted one goal apiece for the Terrapins.
Princeton is now 19-5 on the season after defeating Maryland for the third time this year. Princeton and Michigan have not faced each other this season.
