Princeton Edges Bucknell for Third at Easterns

PROVIDENCE - Courtney Mee scored with 2:22 left in the second overtime period to lead the 20th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team to a 9-8 overtime victory over Bucknell to claim third place at the Eastern Championship Sunday afternoon. The Tigers defeated the Bison for the fourth time in four meetings this season, with three of the contests being one-goal decisions.
Princeton opened up a 6-4 lead at the end of the third quarter to match its largest of the game. However, Jessica Trimis scored three of her team-high four goals in a three-minute span to give Bucknell a 7-6 lead. Princeton came back to take an 8-7 lead on a goal from Megan Donahue with 1:23 left in regulation. The Bison quickly answered as Meagan Gins tallied with just over 40 seconds remaining.
The first overtime period was scoreless, but Mee tallied the deciding goal just 38 seconds into the second overtime stanza.
Mee, Carolina Ardila and Elyse Colgan led the Tigers with two goals apiece. Trimis paced the Bison with her four scores, all after halftime, while Gins added a pair.
The win ends Princeton's season with a reocrd of 20-6 for its eighth consecutive 20-win season. Colgan was named to Eastern Tournament's first-team, while Karina Reyner and goalkeeper Natalie Kim were named to the tournament's second team.
