PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton softball pitcher Erin Snyder, a sociology major with a 3.40 grade-point average, has been named first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District II, the organization announced Thursday. Snyder is one of 10 players in the district to be honored.
During the regular season, Snyder carried a 17-5 record with 242 strikeouts, just seven walks (a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 34.6:1) and an ERA of 0.76, all career-bests. In 21 starts, she struck out a double-digit number of batters 14 times for a strikeouts-per-seven average of 12.2, fifth-best in Division I. She threw one no-hitter, a five-inning perfect game in a 16-0 thrashing of Yale April 9.
Snyder tore through the Ivy League with a 7-1 record. Even more amazingly, she struck out 94 batters and allowed only one walk in 47.2 innings. In six of her seven league starts, Snyder struck out a double-digit number of batters with a high of 19 of a possible 21 against Brown April 10. The only time she missed double-digits, she struck out nine Dartmouth hitters. Her efforts helped Princeton to its 16th Ivy title in 25 years and its seventh NCAA tournament bid in 13 years.
Snyder is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, which will be voted on an announced later this month. District II covers Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland and the District of Columbia. The awards are nominated and voted on by collegiate sports information directors and student-athletes with at least sophomore standing and a 3.20 GPA are eligible for consideration.
Princeton is away from competition this weekend but learns of its NCAA tournament destination Sunday. Regional play begins Friday.
