PRINCETON - Princeton sophomore left fielder Spencer Lucian was named the Ivy League Player of the Week today as he helped lead Princeton to a four-game sweep of Cornell last weekened. Lucian hit .476 in five games last week with 10 RBIs. Eight of his 10 hits during the span drove in at least one run.
Lucian led the Tigers 10 hits in 21 trips to the plate. In addition to his 10 RBIs, he four runs scored, hit four doubles, a triple and a home run.
On Sunday against Cornell, Lucian ended the first game of the doubleheader in dramatic fashion with a walk-off home run to lead off the ninth inning. And in the night cap, his two-run double in the third inning gave Princeton a lead it would never relinquish as the Tigers completed the series sweep of Cornell. Lucian also added a two-run triple later in the game.
Princeton senior pitcher Erik Stiller was named to the league's honor roll as well. He pitched seven shutout inning to give Princeton its first of four-straight wins against Cornell on Monday afternoon. Stiller shut down the Big Red hitters, holding them hitless through four innings and only allowing three hits through the seven innings. He struck out 11 batters and earned his second shutout of the Ivy season as he lowered his season ERA by half a run.
Princeton has a midweek game tomorrow afternoon down the road at Rider, then faces Harvard in the best-of-three Ivy League Championship Series this weekend.
