Three Princeton Golfers Named to GCAA's Scholars List
July 13, 2006 | Men's Golf
The GCAA recognized 96 golfers from 69 schools across Division I. The Princeton trio were three of just four Ivy League players honored, and Princeton was one of only six schools with at least three golfers on the list.
Only juniors and seniors with at least a 3.2 GPA and a 76.0 stroke average were considered for inclusion.
Gerken had the team's lowest stroke average at 72.67 with a low round of 67 at the Yestingsmeier tournament last fall at Ball State. He improved six shots each round at the NCAA Central Regional in the spring, finishing with a final-round 72.
Dixon also posted his low round at the Yestingsmeier with a 68, and Sawin posted a low of 70 at the Sea Trail event in North Carolina last fall. Sawin had Princeton's lowest round at the NCAA Regional, scoring 71 on the final day.
Princeton won its third straight Ivy League championship in 2006 and 19th title in the 32-season history of the league event.
