September 23, 2006 | Men's Soccer
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Justin Oppenheimer turned in a strong effort in goal with spectacular saves, but Yale's Jordan Raybould scored with 8:04 left in the second half to secure a 3-2 victory in the Ivy opener at Yale's Reese Stadium.
After the Bulldogs' Alex Munns and James Stewart each had a goal and an assist in the first half by the 26th minute, the score stood still at 2-0 Yale until Princeton scored two goals within five minutes in the second half. In the 55th minute, Princeton's Devin Muntz recovered a loose ball inside the 18-yard box and powered it home to halve the Bulldog lead. In the 59th minute, with the Tigers holding control in their offensive zone, Jame Wunsch dribbled along the end line until he found Brian Brady in front of the goal to tie the game.
Oppenheimer turned away one point-blank attempt after another over the next 20-plus minutes before Raybould controlled the ball following a shot off the post and found the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winner.
The first-year starting keeper made 12 saves on 23 Bulldog shots, while Yale keeper Erik Geiger needed to make only four saves on 13 Princeton attempts. The Tigers also endured nine corner kicks from Yale to three of their own.
Princeton is in action again Wednesday at Bucknell for a 7 p.m. start before returning to league play as part of a men's-women's doubleheader next Saturday against Dartmouth at Lourie-Love Field.
