Princeton Edges Bucknell in Men's Water Polo

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The 14th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team improved to 10-4 overall this season with a 12-9 win on Friday night at No. 17 Bucknell. It was Princeton's second straight win against the Bison.
After allowing a pair of goals in the first period, sophomore Eric Vreeland scored with 35 seconds remaining in the quarter to move Princeton within a goal. The teams traded goals in the second quarter with Vreeland tying things up at 2-2, before Bucknell made it 3-2. Senior Nicholas Seaver's first goal of the game tied the game at 3-3 and a goal from sophomore Douglas Wigley 50 seconds from the end of the half tied the game at 4-4 as it headed to halftime.
Both teams scored three times in the third quarter. After Bucknell took a 5-4 lead, Seaver tied it up, then sophomore Brendan Colgan and junior Zach Beckmann gave Princeton leads of 6-5 and 7-6 before the Bison scored with 18 seconds left to tie the score at 7-7.
Princeton took the lead for good 33 seconds into the final quarter when Colgan notched his second goal of the game. Goals from Vreeland and freshman Gregor Horstmeyer pushed the Princeton lead to 10-7 and the Tigers held on from there, as Vreeland added his fourth of the game and senior Reid Joseph posted a goal.
Junior Scott Syverson made seven saves in the cage to improve to 9-4.
Princeton is now 10-4 overall and 2-0 in CWPA Southern play. The Tigers face Johns Hopkins tomorrow at 12 noon, also at Bucknell.
