Men's Water Polo Stymies Johns Hopkins

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The 14th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team stifled Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon in a 15-4 win in a game played at Bucknell.
After sprinting to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, the Tigers and Blue Jays each traded four goals in the second quarter to reach a 7-4 score at the half. Princeton shutout Johns Hopkins from that point on however, outscoring the Blue Jays 8-0 in the second half for the 15-4 final score.
Senior Chris Kelsch led the offense with three goals and was joined by sophomore Eric Vreeland and freshman Mark Zalewski who each scored twice. Eight other Tigers added a single goal in the contest. Junior Scott Syverson made four saves in the three quarters while freshman Scottie Hvidt made three saves in the final quarter of play.
Princeton was a perfect 5 for 5 in man-up situations, while it limited Johns Hopkins to 2 for 7 with the man advantage.
The Tigers reached double digits in goals for the 11th time this season and a perftect 11-0 when scoring 10 or more goals.
Princeton improved to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the CWPA Southern Division. The Tigers are back in action a week from today at home when Navy and NYAC visit DeNunzio Pool. The Tigers dropped their game with Navy last weekend in the semifinals of the ECAC Championship.
