Meagan Cowher Receives Back-to-Back Ivy Player of the Week Honors
January 15, 2007 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. -- In recognition of a 66-point weekend, the Ivy League has chosen Princeton junior forward Meagan Cowher as its women's basketball Player of the Week. Cowher scored 31 points in Princeton's comeback win over Columbia and a career-high 35 in a near-miss against Cornell.
Her weekend was the most productive Ivy League set of games for any Princeton basketball player, men's or women's, other than Bill Bradley '65. Against the Big Red, Cowher also had 11 rebounds, marking her fourth double-double of the season and ninth of her career.
On the same weekend a year ago, Cowher scored 32 points at Columbia before following it up with 27 at Cornell the next night, representing what was then her highest-scoring single-game and two-game set.
Last week, Cowher was chosen Ivy League Player of the Week for scoring 27 points at Lafayette and 22 at Penn. She is averaging 29.3 points for Princeton's three conference games.
The big weekend brought Cowher's career total to 966 as she seeks to become Princeton's 17th 1,000-point scorer. Cowher is on pace to reach the milestone Feb. 3 against Brown at Jadwin Gym, based on her current 19.0 points per game average.
The Tigers had won their first two Ivy League games before dropping a four-point contest to Cornell Saturday to stand at 8-9 overall and 2-1 in Ivy play. The team will be off for finals until Feb. 2.
