Peter Capkovic Earns National Ranking As Spring Season Begins
January 18, 2007 | Men's Tennis
Princeton sophomore Peter Capkovic, who finished his first fall season with a 6-3 record, has earned a national ranking of No. 100 in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released Jan. 9.
Capkovic, who also earned a regional ranking of No. 10 in the fall, reached the final at the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational in his first collegiate tournament and later reached the round of 32 at the ITA Northeast regional. He also defeated Penn's Jason Pinsky in the ECAC Division I Invitational after falling to Pinsky earlier in the fall in the Farnsworth championship match.
The Tiger sophomore, a native of Slovakia, was ranked No. 102 in the September preseason FILA rankings. An ITA Scholar-Athlete selection and team captain in 2006-07, he attended Princeton as a freshman in 2005-06 but sat out due to NCAA regulations.
Before attending Princeton, Capkovic had wins against top players Radek Stepanek, currently ranked in the top 20 in the world, and Vladmir Voltchkov, a former Wiimbledon semifinalist.
The Princeton men's tennis team begins its spring dual match season Feb. 4 when the Tigers host Central Florida at Jadwin Gym.
