Men's Swimming/Diving Honors Ebersole, '07 Class In Win Over Dartmouth
January 28, 2007 | Men's Swimming and Diving
The Princeton men's swimming and diving celebrated its 2007 Senior Day with a 201-94 victory over Dartmouth Sunday at DeNunzio Pool. The win was Princeton's first following its finals break, and it gives the Tigers momentum as they head into next weekend's H-Y-P showdown, also at DeNunzio Pool. But the celebration was mostly for the senior class, and it included a touching tribute to Alan Ebersole, who passed away as a sophomore two years ago.
Princeton opened a meet that featured a variety of non-traditional events by winning the 275 medley relay in the time of 2:10.46. Sophomore Dan Eckel edged out classmate Robert Griest to win the first individual race, the 500 free, in 4:30.62. Easton Chen edged out Seok Jun Lee by .03 of a second to win the 100 breast in 59.71.
Doug Lennox finished atop a 1-2-3-4 Princeton finish in the 50 fly (23.66), and Mike Baity followed with an impressive sub-10-second performance to win the 25 free (9.99). Two seniors then battled in the closest showdown of the day. Kyle Voorheis edged out 2006 All-America Meir Hasbani by .01 of a second to win the 50 back in 25.41. Chen won the 50 breast in 27.37, and Eckel followed by winning the 100 fly in 51.86.
Senior Mike Zee claimed the final individual event of the day, the 200 IM, in 1:58.42. The 300 free relay team ended the meet by winning in 2:08.73. A pair of freshmen, Dan Dickerson (1-meter) and Michael Papageorge (3-meter), both placed second to Dartmouth's Andrew Berry in their respective events, although Tiger junior Stuart Malcolm did win the exhibition platform competition.
During the meet, Princeton honored a senior class that has won two of three EISL titles and will try for a third title in three weeks at DeNunzio Pool. Prior to the senior tribute, the team paid tribute to Ebersole, a beloved member of the class who passed away in 2004. The rest of the seniors are David Ashley, Ryan Becker, Dan Box, Miles Cava, Alex Chiang, Ryan Darby, Meir Hasbani, Sandor Kovacs, Ryan McCabe, Mike Ott, Ryan Rimmele, Tim Ruse, Kyle Voorheis and Mike Zee.
