Princeton Swimming/Diving Opens 2007 Schedule Against Bucknell
January 05, 2007 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Both Princeton swimming and diving squads will open the 2007 portion of their seasons in the friendly confines of DeNunzio Pool, a location both teams hope to see major success throughout the winter. The future location of the H-Y-P meet, the 2007 Ivy League championship and the 2007 EISL championships, DeNunzio Pool will welcome the men's and women's teams from Bucknell and the James Madison women for a Saturday meet. The competition will begin at 10 a.m., and the full schedule of events can be found in the story.
The Princeton men enter the weekend with a 4-4 record, including a 2-1 mark in the Ivy League. The Tigers, led by 2006 All-America Meir Hasbani and a pair of terrific sophomores in Robert Griest and Doug Lennox, both of whom have won several events already this season, have never lost a home dual meet. Princeton owns wins this season over Brown, Penn, Oakland and Big 10 squad Michigan State. It is also the defending EISL champion, a title it will look to defend Feb. 22-24 when it hosts the 2007 championships.
The Tiger women have a strong 5-1 record, with its only loss coming to a powerful Michigan squad. Princeton is 3-0 against Ivy League rivals and swam well at the 2006 Big Al Invitational, even if it didn't necessarily show in the final team standings against a loaded field. The 2006 Ivy League champion Tigers return several standouts, including Brett Shiflett, Lisa Hamming and Ellen Gray, but the story of the young season has been freshman Alicia Aemisegger. She has already assaulted the Princeton record book, breaking five Tiger marks already. Her first shot at an Ivy League title will come Feb. 15-17, when Princeton hosts the 2007 Ivy League championships.
Full results of this weekend's competition will be posted on GoPrincetonTigers.com when available.
