Capkovic Advances To Quarterfinals At Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional

Junior Peter Capkovic earned victories Sunday in the second round and Round of 16 at the Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional to advance to a Monday quarterfinal matchup with Drexel's Omar Laalej.
Capkovic, the tournament's No. 2 seed, had to come from behind in his first match of the day against No. 18 seed Sebastien Dietz from Binghamton. Dietz won the first set 6-4 before the Princeton junior responded well, losing just one game the rest of the match and winning the decisive third set a love.
Penn State's Eddie Bourchier, the No. 16 seed, then tested Capkovic in the fourth round, but the Princeton junior won the second set in a tiebreak to close out a 6-3, 7-6 victory and advance to the quarterfinals.
The two singles finalists at the Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional, as well as the doubles championship team, advance to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships Nov. 1-4 in Columbus, Ohio.
Princeton's George Carpeni, the No. 10 seed, won his first match on Sunday before falling in the round of 16. He outlasted Ivy League rival Jeff Dawson of Yale by scores of 6-4 and 7-6 in the third round but was then taken out by Columbia's Mark Clemente, the No. 8 seed, in a 6-3, 6-3 decision.
Both Alex Krueger-Wyman and Alex Vuckovic lost tough matches in the third round of the singles draw Sunday. Krueger-Wyman, the No. 25 seed, fell in two tiebreaks, both by scores of 8-6, to No. 9 seed Dan Nguyen of Harvard. Vuckovic had a tough challenge in Harvard's Chris Clayton, the No. 4 seed, extending Clayton to a third set with a 7-5 victory in the second, but Clayton came back to win the decisive set 6-4.
