Princeton Women's Basketball Adds Three for Class of 2011
February 19, 2007 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Princeton women's basketball head coach Richard Barron has announced the addition of three early decision candidates - Shelbie Pool of Georgia, Addie Micir of Pennsylvania and Krystal Hill of Texas - for the Class of 2011.
From a roster 17 strong, the Tigers will lose four seniors, including guards Shelly Slemp, Elyse Umeda and Lillie Romeiser, as well as four-year starting forward Casey Lockwood.
Micir, a six-foot guard/forward from outside Philadelphia, is nearing 1,500 career points and 600 career rebounds for Council Rock North. Last season, she earned second-team all-state honors while being named first-team all-area from the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Bucks County Courier Times as her team advanced to the Pennsylvania 4A title game. Micir was also a McDonald's All-America nominee this season and has hit nearly 90% of her free throws this season and better than 80% for her career.
"Addie is a terrific all-around player," Barron said. "She can handle the ball and distribute with the skill of a point guard and can score in the post with her back to the basket. She has a great outside shot, a very versatile mid-range game, and finishes well at the basket. She can defend any position on the floor with her strength and athleticism. She is a physically and mentally tough player who has a very bright future ahead of her."
Pool, a 5-10, left-handed shooting guard and three-year team captain, hit 43% of her three-point attempts as a junior at Mill Creek High School outside Atlanta. For a program ranked among the best in Georgia's 5A classification, Pool averaged 14 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game as a junior. Her play helped her gain a second-team all-state honor and a place on this season's Georgia High School Association all-star North team.
"Shelbie is a very good shooter and a nice passer," Barron said. "Her ability to consistently knock down the three will help spread the defense. She has played at a very high level in high school and during the summer travel season with very good players and understands how to play well with her teammates."
Hill, a 5-7 guard from outside Houston, has scored over 1,400 points at North Shore High School. Averaging 19.8 points, 4.1 steals and 4.9 assists per game this year, Hill has earned accolades as a top district newcomer during her first varsity season and was recognized as the best free throw shooter in the Houston area last year.
"Krystal is extremely fast and very competitive," Barron said. "She has the ability to blow by people with her speed and to really pressure people on the defensive end. Her quickness and lateral explosion are rare in the league but even more rare when coupled with her offensive skills and outside shooting ability."
The 2007 Tigers are in the second half of their Ivy League season and will return to Jadwin Gym to host Dartmouth Friday and Harvard Saturday, both 7 p.m. starts.
