Collette Abbott Named Ivy League Softball Rookie of the Week
March 13, 2007 | Softball
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Princeton third baseman Collette Abbott wasted no time getting comfortable hitting in a Tiger uniform. After hitting .480 to start the season, the Ivy League has honored Abbott as its Rookie of the Week for softball.
The awards are the first of the season from the league office. Last year, Princeton took at least one of the three weekly honors, for top pitcher, overall player and rookie, all eight weeks.
Abbott, the top hitter among all Princeton starters, started the first eight games of the season and had a hit in seven of them. In a doubleheader against Marshall and Rhode Island on March 3 in North Carolina, Abbott went 5 for 7 with four RBIs, a double and a home run.
She got a hit in all four games she played during the Maryland Invitational, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs against Central Connecticut State and 2 for 3 in a win over host Maryland.
The Tigers are 5-4 through their first two weekends of competition and will head to Florida for 16 games in 10 days March 16-25.
