Men's Lightweights Start 2007 On Right Note By Topping Navy
March 24, 2007 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
The men's lightweight crews from Princeton and Navy opened their 2007 seasons with a morning of hard-fought racing on Lake Carnegie. Both teams won their share of races, but the critical first varsity eight competition went to the home team. Second-year head coach Greg Hughes was pleased to see the 2006 IRA bronze medalist Tigers open their 2007 season with a 2.2-second victory over the talented Midshipmen.
After a solid fall and what Hughes considered a good offseason of training, Princeton started its 2007 season 1-0 by finishing the varsity eight in 6:07.7. Navy finished in 6:09.9, although the Midshipmen did pick up wins in both the second varsity (6:11.0/6:14.8) and the third varsity (6:19.2/6:22.3).
Princeton also got a good early showing from its freshman boat. One year after winning Eastern Sprints with members of the Class of 2009, the Class of 2010 picked up an early win over Navy. The Tigers finished in 6:15.7, while Navy came in at 6:21.4. The Midshipmen won the second novice eight (6:40.9/7:19.1).
Princeton will remain home for the next two weekends, beginning March 31 when it hosts Georgetown.
