Men's Heavyweight Crew Opens Spring Schedule With Win Over Navy
March 31, 2007 | Heavyweight Rowing
The men's heavyweight crew opened the spring schedule on the friendly waters of Lake Carnegie on Saturday, and posted a 14-second victory over Navy's Varsity 8. The defending Eastern Champions posted a time of 6:04.3 to take the win over the Midshipmen, who completed the 2000-meter race in 6:18.6. An early lead was virtually unchallenged by the Mids. The Tigers stroked to a full-boat-length lead by the 500-meter mark, and continued to extend their lead throughout the remainder of the race.
The Midshipmen took the 2nd and 3rd Varsity 8 races, while Princeton's Class of 2010 debuted this spring with a convincing win by outrowing Navy by nearly 22 seconds.
The Orange and Black will compete for the Logg Cup next Saturday (4/7) when it makes the short trip to Rutgers. The race will take place on the Raritan River.
