Men's Lightweights Stay Unbeaten With Sweep Of Georgetown/Columbia
March 31, 2007 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
The Princeton men's lightweight crew moved to 3-0 on the season and secured the Fosburgh Cup with a hard-fought win over both Georgetown and Columbia Saturday morning at Lake Carnegie. The varsity eight posted a winning time of 6:03.6, which defeated the second-place Hoyas by more than one second.
All four races during the three-team regatta were fairly close, and Princeton was able to leave with three wins. The first varsity victory, which moves the Tigers to 3-0 on the season, came by 1.4 seconds over Georgetown and 6.2 seconds over Columbia. The second varsity won its competition by five full seconds after posting a time of 6:15.6. The novice eight also remained unbeaten by coming in at 6:18.5, ahead of Columbia's time of 6:24.1.
Head coach Greg Hughes will now have two weeks to work with his impoving squad before the Tigers head to Ithaca, N.Y., for its biggest test of the early season. Along with Rutgers, Princeton will take on the defending Eastern Sprint and IRA champion Cornell Big Red on Saturday, April 14. That will open a three-week run when Princeton will face four Ivy League opponents, including Harvard and Yale at home on April 28.
