Princeton went 2-2 a weekend ago against Harvard and Dartmouth as the Tigers usual trip to Cambridge and Hanover had to be modified for weather. Princeton visited Harvard on Saturday where it split its two games, winning the opener 6-4 in eight innings, behind a complete game from junior Steven Miller and three hits and three RBIs from junior Spencer Lucian. Harvard took the nightcap that day 6-3, taking advantage of six Tiger errors to plate five unearned runs.
The Tigers then split their third consecutive league doubleheader the next day against Dartmouth. Instead of playing in Hanover, the games were played at Princeton's Clarke Field, only with Dartmouth batting last as the home team. In the opener, Dartmouth plated an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 2-1 win, while in the night cap, Princeton put together 17 hits and 12 runs for a 12-4 win. All but one Tiger batter had a hit in the game, with senior Sal Iacono and sophomore Adrian Turnham leading the way with three each. Senior Eric Walz got the win.
Princeton faced Monmouth on Tuesday in mid-week action and fell 8-3. Senior Aaron Prince hit a two-run home run in third inning and drove in the third Tiger run with a groundout in the eighth.
Princeton's opponent for the weekend is a Columbia team that sits at 10-19-1 overall. The Lions began Ivy and Gehrig Division play by taking three of four games from Penn, but then went just 2-6 against the Rolfe Divison to fall to fourth place in the division. Last weekend the Lions went 0-4 on the road, being swept at Brown and Yale. Midweek losses the week before at Monmouth and this Tuesday at Rutgers put Columbia on a six-game losing streak.
Princeton leads its all-time series with Columbia 111-75-2 overall and is 53-40-1 against the Lions at home. Princeton has taken four games from the Lions in two of the last three years, but two years ago, Columbia came to Clarke Field and won three of four games. Last season Princeton entered its series at Columbia with a 1-7 league record. Princeton then won four straight against the Lions as it climbed back into Gehrig Division contention. In Game 1, Erik Stiller pitched a six-hit shutout and Turnham drove in three runs. In the second game, Princeton's Eric Walz and Columbia's Bill Purdy took a scoreless game into the 10th inning before Princeton scored six in the top of the 11th for a 6-3 win. The next day senior Michael Zaret and junior Reid Peyton combined for a three-hit shutout in Game 1, while junior Christian Staehely and Miller shut down Columbia in the nightcap for an 11-2 win.
