Columbia Defeats Princeton, 4-3, in Men's Tennis Showdown

Columbia won three-set matches at Nos. 4 and 5, the final two singles matches of the day on court, on the way to a 4-3 win over Princeton in an Ivy League men's tennis match played Friday afternoon at the Lenz Tennis Center.
Both the No. 70 Tigers and 72nd-ranked Lions entered the match at 4-1
in the Ivy League, and each team needed a victory to stay alive in the
Ivy title race with Penn, which improved to 6-0 in league play with a win
over Cornell Friday. Princeton (11-6, 4-2 Ivy) will now play at Cornell Sunday to end the season, while Columbia (14-4, 5-1 Ivy) will host Penn Sunday and can force an Ivy League playoff match with the Quakers for the league's NCAA tournament berth with a win.
Princeton's Alex Vuckovic won the first set over Paul Ratchford 6-2 at No. 5 singles, but the Columbia senior took the second set in a tiebreak and then used a late service break to win the third set 7-5, tying the overall team match at 3-3.
At No. 4, Princeton's Alex Krueger-Wyman forced what became the deciding match to three sets by winning a second-set tiebreak, but Marty Moore won the third set 6-2 with a final service game at love to give the Lions the team victory.
The Tigers had taken a 3-2 advantage in the match a few minutes earlier when Sratha Saengsuwarn won another three-setter at No. 2 singles, a victory over Columbia's Jared Drucker. Saengsuwarn, one of two Princeton seniors playing his final home match, won the first set 6-1 and the match 7-5 in the third set.
No. 1 Peter Capkovic gave the Tigers their other singles win earlier when he won a 6-0 third set against Mark Clemente.
Princeton took a 1-0 lead in the match by winning in a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles. Capkovic and Vuckovic outlasted Drucker and Justin Chow 7-5 in the tiebreak to clinch the doubles point after Princeton also got a win at No. 3 doubles from Saengsuwarn and Krueger-Wyman.
