JAMAICA, N.Y. -- St. John's scored twice in the fourth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and take
a lead in an eventual 6-2 win over the Princeton baseball team on
Tuesday night at Jack Kaiser Stadium. Junior Spencer Lucian had two
hits in the game as he and sophomores Adrian Turnham and Dan DeGeorge all doubled and scored in the game.
St. John's took a 2-0 lead in the game, scoring single runs in the first and third innings. In the first, a leadoff single, stolen base, wild pitch and a groundout gave the Red Storm its first run. Two innings later, Jeff Grantham reached on an error and scored an unearned run on Gil Zayas' double.
Princeton evened the score in its half of the fourth inning by scoring two runs. Lucian led off the inning with a double and scored when Turnham hit a double to right field. Turnham then evened the score at 2-2 when he went to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.
St. John's promptly regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Grantham singled in a pair of runs in a three-hit inning for the Red Storm. St. John's added a run in the sixth inning before the teams traded runs in the seventh. Princeton's run came as DeGeorge hit a one-out double and scored on groundout.
Freshman Jon Broscious took the loss for the Tigers as he pitched four innings and surrendered four runs on nine hits. Freshman Langford Stuber and junior Steven Miller also pitched for the Tigers.
Princeton now stands 12-22 with the loss while St. John's is 26-12. Princeton is back in action on Friday at 12 noon when it hosts a doubleheader against Cornell at Clarke Field. Princeton needs to win all four scheduled games against Cornell to tie Penn in the Gehrig Division standings and force a one-game playoff. Cornell and Penn split their doubleheader today in Ithaca.
