Men's Tennis Completes Weekend Sweep With 4-3 Win at Yale
April 07, 2007 | Men's Tennis
Princeton got a comeback three-set win from Peter Capkovic at No. 1 singles and a clinching straight-set win from Charlie Brosens at No. 5 singles on the way to a 4-3 win over Yale in an Ivy League men's tennis match played Saturday afternoon.
Brosens outlasted Connor Dawson 7-5 in the first set before dominating the second, 6-1, to clinch Princeton's come-from-behind win. Capkovic lost the first set in a tiebreak to Brandon Wai but rebounded to lose just six games in the next two sets on the way to the win at No. 1.
75th-ranked Princeton (9-5) improved to 2-1 in the Ivy League after sweeping the Bulldogs and Brown on the road this weekend.
Yale won the doubles point with a clincher at No. 2 after the teams split at Nos. 1 and 3, but the Tigers dominated the top of the singles lineup to take control of the match. At No. 2, Sratha Saengsuwarn won a tight match against Michael Caldwell by scores of 6-4 and 7-6, while George Carpeni won an equally tough match at No. 3 over Jeff Dawson by scores of 6-4 and 7-5.
Saengsuwarn also joined Alex Krueger-Wyman to win for Princeton at No. 3 doubles. Krueger-Wyman's singles match against Rory Green at No. 4 went to three sets before Green came back for the victory.
Princeton will host Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend at the Lenz Center (weather permitting) or at Jadwin Gym.
