Iacono Named First-Team All-Ivy; Five Others Receive Honors
May 17, 2007 | Baseball
PRINCETON ? Senior Sal Iacono led a group of six Tigers that received All-Ivy honors from the Ivy League on Thursday. Iacono was named the third baseman on the first team, marking the third All-Ivy selection in the senior's career.
Iacono led the Tigers in most offensive categories, including batting average, hits, doubles and RBIs. The senior completed his Princeton career with his best year in the orange and black, and his .413 batting average was the third-highest single-season average in Princeton baseball history. He also is the winner of the Ivy League's Blair Bat Award, which is awarded annually to the batter with the highest batting average in the Ivy League season. Iacono hit .453 in 20 Ivy League games.
Iacono's first-team selection marked the seventh-straight year that Princeton has placed at least one player on the Ivy League's first team. Iacono was a second-team selection as a junior and was an honorable mention his sophomore season.
Princeton placed two members on the league's second team as sophomore Dan DeGeorge was selected at shortstop and classmate Adrian Turnham was chosen as the designated hitter. DeGeorge, an honorable mention last season, batted .298 during the season, but hit 30 points higher in the Ivy season at .328. Turnham hit .308 for the Tigers and shared the team lead in doubles with 12. He also drove in 21 runs. He also batted higher in Ivy League play, posting a .343 average in 19 games.
Three other Tigers earned honorable mentions from the league. Senior Aaron Prince, a second-team selection in 2006, was selected at second base, while junior Spencer Lucian received an honorable mention for his play at centerfield. Freshman catcher Jack Murphy also was named an honorable mention All-Ivy.
The 2007 All-Ivy baseball team has been determined as result of a vote of the eight League head coaches. Below are the selections. More to come.
