Frick Finishes Third In East Region High Jump, Advances to National Meet
May 26, 2007 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
Princeton high jumper Justin Frick will advance to next month's NCAA championship meet after finishing third in the high jump competition at the NCAA East Regional championships Saturday afternoon at Florida's Percy Beard Track.
Frick, a freshman, was one of seven competitors to clear 2.11 meters (6 feet, 11 inches) but was the only one of those seven to clear that height without a miss. The top five finishers in the competition automatically advance to the NCAA championship meet June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif.
The outdoor Heptagonal and IC4A champion in the high jump this season, Frick finished behind only Georgia Tech's Jerome Miller and event winner Ryan Fritz from Penn State, who equalled the East regional record with a clearance of 2.19 meters (7-2 1/4).
Three other Princeton men's athletes competed Saturday on the second and final day of the East regional. In the field events, Eric Plummer's toss of 54 feet, 3 3/4 inches in the shot put was good for 22nd place.
Bryan Sharkey and Brett Campfield competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on the men's side, finishing 30th and 34th respectively, while three Tiger women also participated in the steeplechase event. Both Reilly Kiernan (10:37.62) and Jen Johnson (10:39.86) finished in the top 20 in the event, and Megan Brandeland also competed in the event for Princeton.
