Iacono Receives All-Region Honors
June 19, 2007 | Baseball
Third baseman Sal Iacono was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association's Northeast Region's first team on Tuesday. Iacono was a first-team All-Ivy selection for Princeton and will begin his professional career later this week.
As a senior, Iacono led the Tigers in most offensive categories in 2007 and won the Ivy League's Blair Bat Award as the league's batting champion. The senior was a first-team All-Ivy selection this spring as he led the Tigers in batting average, hits, doubles and RBIs.
Iacono completed his Princeton career with his best year in the Orange and Black, and his .413 batting average was the third-highest single-season average in Princeton baseball history. He hit .453 in Ivy League play.
The Staten Island, N.Y. native was one of two Ivy League players chosen to the first team as Brown catcher Devin Thomas joined him. The region's head coaches selected the team.
Iacono will make his professional debut later this week with the Tri-City Valley Cats of the New York-Penn League.
