Nightingale, Mullen Each Have Top 10 Finishes in 5,000 Meters at NCAA Championships

David Nightingale finished an impressive eighth on the men's side and Catha Mullen placed 10th overall on the women's side in the 5,000 meters as Princeton action concluded late Friday night at the 2007 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hornet Stadium.
Nightingale, a junior, concluded a tremendous season that also saw him earn All-America honors in both cross country and the indoor mile with an eighth-place time of 13:55.15 for the 12 1/2 laps. His time was less than a second behind the seventh-place time and fourth among runners that will return to school next year.
Mullen, running in her final collegiate race, finished just more than a second outside the top eight in the women's 5,000 final. Her time of 16:04.75 was good for 10th place overall in the finals field of 16.
Both Nightingale and Mullen had qualified for Friday's finals by finishing in the top six in their respective heats in Wednesday's preliminaries. Nightingale was second in his heat, while Mullen finished fourth in her qualifying race.
Pole vaulter Andrew Park and high jumper Justin Frick also competed at the NCAA championship meet for Princeton this week.
