Football Debuts At No. 23 In Preseason Sports Media Entertainment Poll
July 16, 2007 | Football
The defending Ivy League football champion Princeton Tigers was picked No. 23 nationally in the debut Sports Media Entertainment football poll. The preseason poll, which lists defending NCAA champion Appalachian St. first, had only two schools ranked from non-scholarship conferences, the University of San Diego (No. 22) and Princeton. Hampton, who will play at Princeton Stadium Oct. 6 at 3:30 (CN8), is ranked 17th in the preseason poll.
Princeton, which has won 17 of its last 21 games, went 9-1 last season for its first Ivy League title since 1995 and its first nine-win season since 1964. National Coach of the Year finalist Roger Hughes returns several experienced veterans, including first-team All-Ivy receiver Brendan Circle and honorable-mention All-Ivy defensive lineman Pete Buchignani. He will also need significant production from several new faces, including potential starting quarterback Bill Foran, who replaces 2006 Ivy League Player of the Year Jeff Terrell. The former Tiger quarterback is now battling for the No. 3 quarterback spot as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Tigers, whose game times have now been finalized and can be found on the schedule page, will open their season Sept. 15 at home against Lehigh. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
