Saiontz, King Win Consolation Singles Brackets at William & Mary Invitational

Melissa Saiontz and Ivana King each recovered from first-round losses in their respective singles brackets to win three straight matches and earn consolation singles titles at the 15th Annual William & Mary Invitational this weekend in Virginia.
Saiontz, playing in the "A" bracket, defeated Jennifer Stevens from Virginia, No. 3 seed Katarina Zoricic of host William & Mary and then Melissa Mang of Duke in the consolation final by an impressive score of 6-1 and 6-4. She had won a third-set proset 10-5 against Zoricic after beating Stevens in straight sets, including a 6-0 second-set win.
King knocked off two seeded players to win the consolation bracket in "B" singles, defeating Boston College's Dasha Cherkasov 6-3 and 7-5 in her first consolation match and winning a three-set match in the consolation final, 10-5 in a proset, against No. 3 seed Karolina Soor of Marshall. In between, King lost just two games in a straight-set win over Maryland's Julia Huschke.
In the main draws, junior Kelly Stewart reached the final of the "F" bracket, including a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Cincinnati's Ashley Hale in the semifinal, before falling to another Cincinnati player in the final. Both Blakely Ashley, in the "C" bracket, and Kristen Scott, in the "E" bracket, won first-round matches before falling in quarterfinal action.
Sophomore Sarah Huah played in the "D" singles, defeating Old Dominion's Daniela Cohen 6-4, 6-1 in a consolation match.
In doubles, both Princeton teams playing the "A" bracket, the team of King and Saiontz and the team of Ashley and Huah, reached the consolation semifinals.
The Tigers will participate in the Cissie Leary Invitational at Penn next weekend.
