September 22, 2007 | Men's Golf
PRINCETON -- Andrew Maliniak was Princeton's top individual as the Tiger men's golf team tied for seventh at the 18-team McLaughlin Invitational Saturday, hosted by St. John's at Bethpage State Park's Red Course on Long Island.
West Florida won the meet at 10-under on the par-70 course, finishing two shots ahead of St. John's. Johnson & Wales (+9), Seton Hall (+16), Columbia (+23) and Jacksonville State (+23) were the other teams in front of the Tigers, who finished along with Penn at +29. Harvard, the only other Ivy League team in the field, finished 18th at +62.
Maliniak was all square through Friday's two rounds with a pair of 70s before shooting a 72 Saturday. He tied for 12th as West Florida golfers took the top two spots. Kyle Scott won the event at -10, five shots ahead of teammate Tobias Rosendahl. Those two golfers led a group of eight who finished in the black.
Completing the Princeton scoring contingent, three Tigers finished tied for 37th at +8, including Juan Pablo Candela (71-76-71), Max Schechter (72-74-72) and Jake Skinner (71-72-75). Greg Stamas, who tied for 61st, was the fifth Tiger at +14 (74-76-74).
The tournament was Princeton's second in a series of five during the fall season. After being away from competition next weekend, Princeton will take part in the Yale Fall Invitational Oct. 6-7.
