Tigers Trip UNC Wilmington, 5-2, In Final Match Of Intersession Trip

Alex Krueger-Wyman and George Carpeni won together at No. 1 doubles and each won tight matches in singles to lead the 71st-ranked Princeton men's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over UNC Wilmington in a match played at N.C. State's J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
The duo, ranked No. 37 in the ITA preseason rankings, defeated Gustavo Bertei and Illia Ziamtsou 8-4 to help the Tigers (1-2) win the doubles point. In singles, Carpeni lost a tough first set to Bertei at No. 2 but came back strong in the final two sets, losing just five games overall and taking the clincher 6-1.
Krueger-Wyman, playing at No. 1 Thursday, defeated Ziamtsou 6-2 and 7-5 to help the Tigers clinch the match. But the Tigers also got a huge win from freshman Ryan Kim, who went to two tiebreaks with Kinshuk Sharma at No. 4 but won both to earn a straight-set win.
Senior Jonathan Leslie had the easiest singles victory for Princeton Thursday, defeating UNCW's Brian Ford 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5.
Princeton played three matches on an intersession trip to North Carolina, falling to No. 53 Elon by a close 4-3 score Monday and then dropping a 5-2 decision to No. 15 Duke Tuesday. The Tigers' next matches come Feb. 24 at Jadwin Gym, when St. John's and St. Joseph's visit.
