Tigers Fall at Top-Ranked USC
October 10, 2008 | Men's Water Polo
LOS ANGELES -- The 15th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team saw its five-game winning streak snapped on Friday afternoon in an 11-4 loss at top-ranked USC. Junior David de L'Arbre scored two goals as the Tigers played their first of five games on the West Coast this weekend.
The first quarter was very tight as both defenses executed very well. The game stayed scoreless until USC broke through in the closing seconds on a Shea Brucker goal to lead 1-0 after eight minutes of action.
The Trojans then broke the game open in second quarter with six goals to Princeton's two to jump ahead 7-2 at the half. USC led 3-0 before the Tigers scored twice to move within a goal, but USC scored the final four goals of the frame to lead by five at the break.
Princeton was shut out in the third frame while USC added two more goals. The teams then traded two goals each in the final stanza. In addition to de L'Arbre's two goals, senior Brendan Colgan and junior Matt Hudnall added goals.
Princeton is now 6-5 overall this season and continues its California trip at the SoCal Tournament at Pepperdine on Saturday and Sunday. Princeton opens the schedule tomorrow morning against third-ranked Stanford.
