Busch Scores Both Goals in a 3-2 Loss to Brown

PRINCETON, N.J. (10/11/08) – Sophomore Brandon Busch scored two goals for the Princeton men's soccer team, but came up a goal short in a 3-2 loss to Brown on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
The teams were playing balanced in the first half, with Brown having a slight edge in shots, 6-5. It was the Tigers that struck first grabbing the 1-0 lead at 36:09 when junior Devin Muntz split his defenders and delivered a great ball up the field to Busch who was running on. Busch shot the ball around goalkeeper Jarrett Leach and into the far left corner.
Just 19 seconds into the second half, Brown knotted the game at one apiece. Iain Eldridge fired a long shot from the far flank and it breezed by Princeton keeper Sean Lynch into the far corner.
Both teams starting to pick up momentum and physicality and it would continue for the next 44 minutes.
Busch gave Princeton a 2-1 lead at 53:40 when he connected on a penalty kick. He was dragged down on his way to the goal and was awarded the kick by the official. He fired the shot to the left of Leach who had no chance.
Nick Elenz-Martin took the wind out of the Tigers' sail when he scored the tying goal at 60:13 when he knocked in a long throw-in from the far touch line. With a little under five minutes to play he scored his second of the game, which proved to be the game-winning goal.
T.J. Thompson took a shot at the goal but the ball pinballed around out in front of the net at the near post. With both teams battling to gain possession, Elenz-Martin got his foot on it and with a quick flick was able to give Brown the lead.
Brown outshot Princeton 11-3, in the second half for a game total of 17-8. Princeton took six corner kicks to Brown's two.
Lynch made six saves for Princeton, while Leech stopped one for Brown, which is now 8-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Princeton is now 2-8-1 overall and 0-1-1 in Ivy League play. The Tigers host Rutgers in a non-conference midweek game on Wednesday, Oct 15 at 7:30 p.m.
