Brian Anderson Earns Ivy League Co-Offensive Player Of The Week Honor
October 06, 2008 | Football
Senior quarterback Brian Anderson made sure Princeton started the 2008
Ivy League football season on the right note last Saturday. His
performance, which included 237 passing yards and a trio of touchdowns,
earned him Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors, his first
such honor by the league. Anderson shared the honor with Cornell's Jesse Baker, who set career highs for receptions (10) and receiving yards (141) in Cornell's 25-24 win over Lehigh.
Anderson completed 14 of 19 passes and didn't throw a single interception in leading Princeton to a fourth-quarter comeback win against Columbia. He threw three touchdown passes, one of which came on a 52-yard strike to Trey Peacock to give Princeton the lead with 8:39 remaining. He also completed touchdown passes of five and 17 yards, and he set a scoring drive up with a 69-yard pass to Will Thanheiser. Anderson added 22 yards rushing in the victory, his second league win in as many career starts.
"He's very deserving of the recognition," head coach Roger Hughes said. "He's been making great decisions and showing great leadership all season. The players believe in him and play hard for him, and his play against Columbia was a great way to start our Ivy League season."
Anderson currently ranks
third in the Ivy League in passing yardage (229.0 per game) and total
offense (255.3), and he leads the league with five touchdown passes. His only interception has come on a desperation heave at the end of the opening-day loss to The Citadel.
