December 17, 2008 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. (12/17/08) - The Princeton women's basketball team will visit the nation's capital this weekend to play a pair of games. The Tigers will take on American on Friday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m., and George Washington on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m.
Live audio will be available for free for both games with Derek Jones calling the action. Both games will be webstreamed but at a cost to the viewer ($6.95 for the American game and $9.95 for the GW game). Live stats will be available, free of charge, for the GW game only. TigerBlog will also provide in-game blogging of both contests.
Princeton and American have met on only one occasion, almost 30 years ago. On November 30, 1979 American recorded a 63-56 victory over Princeton at the George Washington Invite.
With a 6-3 record, American is one of the top teams in the Patriot League, and are currently riding a three-game win streak. They average 68.9 points per game, 8.4 more than their opponents. Michelle Kirk is the leading scorer, averaging 12.8 points per game and Nicole Ryan is right behind with 12.4 points per game. Liz Leer is the team's top rebounding with 5.4 boards per game and a team-best 14 blocks. Raven Harris sets up the plays with 14 assists, while Talicia Jackson is chipping in 18 steals.
George Washington has a slight edge in the all-time series with Princeton, 3-2. The Tigers posted victories in the first two games in the late 1970s, and the Colonials won the next three games on Dec. 4, 1982, Jan. 4, 1997 and Dec. 8, 1997.
George Washington has a 5-3 record, with all five wins coming at the Smith Center. The Colonials have had an easy travel schedule, playing only two away games this year. GW took about two weeks off and but got back at it on Wednesday, defeating Troy, 63-61. Before hosting Princeton, GW will take on Auburn on Friday, Dec. 19. Antelia Parrish does it all for the Colonials, leading the team in three major catergories. She leads the team in scoring with 12.4 points per game, in rebounding with 6.7 rebounds per game, and in assists with 20. Ivy Abiona each have a team-best 12 blocks, while Erica Rivera has a team-best nine steals. As a team, GW is averaging 64.6 points per game, four points better than its opponents, and they have a rebounding margin of +1.4 per game.
