Syracuse Hosts Princeton in an Afternoon Showdown

PRINCETON, N.J. (12/29/08) ? The Princeton University women's basketball team continues its non-conference schedule with a trip to Central New York to take on Syracuse on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Tip-off is set for noon at the Carrier Dome.

Princeton and Syracuse have met just once, last season. The Orange recorded a 77-75 win over the Tigers on Dec. 16 at Jadwin Gym. The lead was changed seven times during the game, and was tied seven times as well.
The Tigers take to the hardwoods for the first game since the holidays, entering today's game with a 4-7 record. Princeton dropped its last two games at American and George Washington on Dec. 19 and 21. Sophomore Addie Micir leads the Tigers in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game and contributes 4.0 rebounds per game. Senior Whitney Downs is hot on her heels with 10.9 points per game. Downs also leads the team in steals with 20, and is chipping in 3.7 rebounds per game. Freshman Devona Allgood leads the team under the rim with 5.5 rebound per game and has 12 blocks, while fellow post player Cheryl Stevens has a team-best 13 blocks. Senior Jessica Berry leads the team in assists, dishing out 24 thus far in the season.
Syracuse is 10-2 on the year and are undefeated at the Carrier Dome with a 6-0 mark. The two losses for the Orange came at Ohio State and Alaska Anchorage in November. The team most recently escaped with a 69-68 win over St. Bonaventure on the road. Erica Morrow is leading the team with 18.6 points per game and has a team-high 33 steals. Tasha Harris sets up the plays and has 49 assists to her credit. Juanita Ward has a team-best 9.4 rebounds per game, while Chandrea Jones adding 9.2 and Nicole Michael's 8.8 per game. Jones has also contributed 16.3 points per game, and Michael's averages 11.7 points per game and has a team-best 10 blocks. The squad is averaging over 73 points per game and holding opponents to under 60 with a +13.9 scoring margin. The Orange are also in the positive in rebounding margin, at +9.3.
