Tiger Fencers Count Four Top-10 Finishes at Junior Olympics
February 18, 2008 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
Princeton freshmen Graham Wicas, Mike Elfassy, Nathaniel Sulat and John Stogin all finished in the top 10 in their weapons at U.S. Fencing's Junior Olympics held over the weekend in Charlotte, N.C.
The event is one in a series in which fencers accumulate points toward competition in the Junior World Championships. The four Tiger men's fencers above, along with Chandler Clay on the women's side, competed in the junior division which includes fencers under 20 years of age.
Wicas finished fifth of 233 competitors in the epee, just ahead of Elfassy in eighth place and Sulat tied for ninth. In the sabre, Stogin finished seventh of 179 fencers. Clay finished 40th of 175 competitors in the women's epee.
The group will rejoin the Princeton fencing team as it prepares to compete in the 2008 IFA Championships this weekend at Columbia.
