Harvard Pulls Away from Women's Basketball, 82-64
February 02, 2008 | Women's Basketball
BOSTON -- The Harvard-Dartmouth trip has been the most difficult road swing in the Ivy League for the Princeton women's basketball team, and this season was no different.
Harvard's 82-64 win over the Orange and Black Saturday night handed Princeton its 15th sweep since the current scheduling format began in 1983. The Tigers were coming off a 68-55 loss at Dartmouth Friday night.
The loss drops Princeton to 4-15 overall and 1-2 in Ivy play while the Crimson stand at 10-8 and 3-1 in the league.
Princeton never led the Crimson but were within three as late as 26-23 with 9:26 to go before halftime. But Harvard started a five-minute 19-2 run at that point to balloon its lead to 20 for the first time.
The Tigers didn't get closer than 16 after that point while the Crimson were ahead by as much as 25 in the second half.
Meagan Cowher led Princeton with 11 points, giving her 1,469 for her career and a double-digit total for the 22nd straight game. Eleven of the 12 Tigers who saw game action scored a point, but Princeton was once again without Addie Micir for the second straight game. Micir, who scored 22 points in her last outing against Penn Jan. 12, was named Ivy League Player of the Week for her performance.
arvard won the rebounding battle by nearly 2 to 1, outrebounding Princeton 42-22. The Crimson also outshot Princeton 51.5 percent to 44.9 percent and had three fewer turnovers, 17-14. Emily Tay led Harvard with 15 points and Lindsay Hallion added 14.
The Tigers will host Cornell and Columbia next Friday and Saturday at Jadwin Gym in their first full home Ivy weekend.
