Cowher Wins Ivy Scoring Title but Tigers Drop Finale at Penn, 85-78

PHILADELPHIA -- Meagan Cowher scored 31 points to claim her second straight Ivy League scoring title, but her achievement came in a loss in her final game for the Princeton women's basketball team at Penn Tuesday night, 85-78.
Cowher finishes her career with 1,671 points, good for second place on the Princeton all-time scoring list behind only Sandi Bittler '90, who had 1,683. Her 532 points this season is a Princeton record.
Cowher's total led Princeton as the Tigers finished the season at 7-23 overall and 4-10 in Ivy League play. Addie Micir, the Philadelphia-area native from Newtown, Pa., had 14 points and Jessica Berry added 12. Ali Prichard, one of two seniors in the game along with Cowher, had five points in her last contest.
The Quakers ended their season at 7-22 and in a sixth-place tie with the Tigers in the Ivy standings. Kim Adams paced the Quakers with 28 points while Carrie Biemer added 23 as Penn had four players in double figures.
Penn had just a two-point halftime lead at 29-27 despite outshooting the Tigers 52.2 to 35.7 percent in the opening 20 minutes. The Quakers led by as much as nine, taking a 15-6 advantage on a pair of free throws by Biemer. Princeton eventually clawed back to tie at 27-27 on a Cowher bucket in the half's final minute, but Katarina Lackner scored with five seconds before the break to retake the lead for the Quakers.
Penn's lead grew to as much as 12 on a bucket by Katarina Lackner with 10:55 to play before Princeton whittled it down in the final two minutes.
The Quakers still led by 11 with 1:40 to play before missing some free throws to let the Tigers back in the game. Princeton's deficit was just three points on three occasions in the final minute, but Princeton couldn't get the stops on the other end to close the gap.
Penn outshot Princeton 58.7 to 43.5 percent for the game and outrebounded the Tigers 32-27.
