Men's Tennis Trips Utah, 5-2, In Second Match Of California Trip
March 19, 2008 | Men's Tennis
Princeton won three of the five singles matches that went to three sets on the way to a 5-2 victory over Utah in a neutral-site match played in San Diego Wednesday. The Tigers improved to 7-4 in the spring with the victory.
After Princeton's Ilya Trubov earned an impressive straight-set victory over Utah's Amit Maharaj at No. 6 singles to give the Tigers a 2-0 team lead, each of the other five singles matches went to three sets. But the Tigers proved to be up to the challenge, particularly at No. 2 where George Carpeni came back from a set down to defeat Othman Zerouali-Ouariti 6-4 in the third set.
At No. 4, Ryan Kim had a strong third set against Stephen Jacobs, winning that set 6-1 to take the match. At No. 5, Charlie Brosens beat Timmy Allin 6-4 in the third set.
Peter Capkovic lost in a tiebreaker in the third set to Zach Ganger at No. 1, but had earlier teamed with Alex Vuckovic to win at No. 2 doubles to help the Tigers take a 1-0 lead by clinching the doubles point.
The Tigers play Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon.
