Heavyweight Crew Opens With Impressive Win Over Georgetown
March 29, 2008 | Heavyweight Rowing
The Princeton heavyweights opened the 2008 racing season with a dominant victory over Georgetown on Lake Carnegie Saturday afternoon. With a strong headwind and a slight chop affecting Princeton's home course, the Tigers won three of four races, including the first varsity and first novice competitions.
Princeton won the varsity eight showdown in 6:18.9, nearly seven full seconds faster than Georgetown's time of 6:25.7. Princeton also claimed wins in the second varsity (6:22.9) and the first novice (7:03.1) competitions, while Georgetown claimed a close win in the third varsity.
Head coach Curtis Jordan, who was pleased with the offseason for his Princeton squad, will lead the team to the San Diego Crew Classic next weekend. Princeton won't return to Lake Carnegie until April 26 for the Carnegie Cup showdown with Yale and Cornell.
