Junior Swimmer Doug Lennox Claims All-America Honors In 200 Fly
March 29, 2008 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Junior Doug Lennox, whose 2007-08 swim season began with a qualification to the Puerto Rican Olympic team, ended with his first career All-America honor. Princeton's lone EISL champion of the last three years placed fourth in the NCAA 200 fly final at the King County Aquatic Center at the University of Washington.
Lennox, who qualified for the 200 final with the fourth-fastest time in the field (1:43.06), placed fourth in the championship final with a time of 1:42.80. Georgia senior Gil Stovall won the NCAA title in 1:41.33, while freshman teammate Mark Dylla finished second in 1:42.08. Stanford senior Danny Beal edged Lennox by one-hundreth of a second for third place; ironically, Beal topped Lennox by the exact same margin in the preliminary final.
Lennox becomes Princeton first All-America honoree since 2006, when both junior Meir Hasbani and senior Kent DeMond earned the honor. Lennox is a two-time EISL champion; one year after winning the 2007 100 fly, he won the 200 fly during the recent league championship meet.
Senior Stuart Malcolm also competed Saturday in his final meet as a collegiate diver. Although he didn't qualify for a finals appearance on the platform competition, his ability to qualify for NCAAs in his final year was a tremendous end to his Princeton career.
