Three Princetonians on MLB Opening Day Rosters

Three former Princeton baseball players?Tim Lahey, Chris Young and Ross Ohlendorf?begin the 2008 Major League Baseball season today on opening day rosters. Young is in his third season with San Diego, Ohlendorf in his second with the New York Yankees and Lahey will debut as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Young is slated to start San Diego's second game of the season on Tuesday evening against Houston. Young, a National League All-Star last season, had a 3.19 ERA in 19 innings this Spring. Last season, he was 9-8 with a 3.12 ERA and 167 strikeouts.
Ohlendorf made his MLB debut in the fall and had the chance to pitch for the Yankees in the postseason after spending most of the season at AAA. Ohlendorf had a 1.69 ERA in 10.2 innings in Spring Training with a save and a win. He had a 2.84 ERA in 6.1 Major League innings last season.
Lahey will make his Major League debut the first time he takes the mound for the Phillies this season. The former catcher at Princeton was picked up in the Rule 5 Draft this winter by the Chicago Cubs. He pitched for the Cubs in Spring Training, but was put on waivers, where the Phillies picked him up. He pitched in one exhibition game for the Phillies.
Princeton will have four players beginning the season in the Minor Leagues. B.J. Szymanski is on the roster of Cincinnati's AA affiliate in Chattanooga. Will Venable will play for San Diego's AAA team in Portland, while both Erik Stiller and Sal Iacono will plat at Hi A, Stiller with Cleveland's team in Kinston, N.C., and Iacono with Houston's affiliate in Salem, Va.
