Lennox Claims EISL Crown As Men's Swimming/Diving Finishes Second

Junior Doug Lennox won an EISL championship for the second straight year during the final day of the 2008 EISL Championships. Although unbeaten Harvard ran away with the title at their home pool, Princeton held off the rest of the field for a second-place finish.
Harvard won the 2008 title with 1564 team points, while the two-time defending champion Tigers took second with 1208.5 points. Yale held off Columbia by 12.5 points with a final total of 925.
Lennox, the 100 fly champion when Princeton won the 2007 team title, won the 200 fly in a Blodgett Pool-record time of 1:44.36. Harvard's Bill Jones finished second in 1:45.12, while Princeton junior Dan Eckel placed seventh in the championship finals in a time of 1:48.15.
The night opened with the marathon event of the weekend, the 1650 free. Princeton went 4-5 in the finals, with junior Robert Griest taking fourth in 15:23.56, while freshman teammate Pat Biggs placed fifth in 15:24.46. Freshman Colin Hanna took 14th in the 200 back finals in a time of 1:51.25, while sophomore teammate Jon Hartmann finished seventh in the 100 free in a time of 45.34.
For the third time this weekend, Princeton junior Will Schaffer had the unfortunate distinction of racing a championship final against Harvard senior Geoff Rathgeber. Schaffer took second to the Crimson's top performer in the 200 breast in 2:01.79, while Tiger junior Easton Chen placed seventh in 2:04.56.
Sophomore Michael Papageorge improved on his 1-meter performance Thursday night with a second-place finish in the 3-meter competition. He scored 329.75 points, which left him only 4.2 points behind Brown freshman Jon Speed. Princeton had an event-best three finalists in the 3-meter competition; sophomore Dan Dickerson placed sixth with 293.95 points, while senior Stuart Malcolm concluded his EISL career with a seventh-place total of 283.35 points.
Princeton ended the weekend with a third-place finish in the 400 free relay. The team of Lennox, Michael Carter, Hartmann and Geoff Faux posted an NCAA B-cut time of 2:58.36.
