Women?s Water Polo Tripped Up at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Princeton women's water polo team fell to Maryland 12-9 on Saturday afternoon at Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium. Princeton fell behind early in the game, but rallied to even things in the third quarter, before Maryland reasserted itself for the win.

The loss drops the Tigers to 15-10 overall and 3-2 in the CWPA. Maryland started the game with three goals in the game's first three minutes and led 7-3 midway through the second quarter, before the Tiger closed the gap to three at 8-5 at halftime.

Princeton scored three straight goals to begin the second half, tying the game at 8-8, but Maryland took the lead back with the final two goals of the quarter to lead 10-8 and outscored the Tigers 2-1 in the final frame for the 12-9 win.

Sophomore Phoebe Champion led the Tiger offense with two goals and seven other Tigers contributed two goals each.
