Men's Lightweights Retain Fosburgh Cup Against Columbia, Georgetown
April 05, 2008 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
The Princeton men's lightweight crew made its home opener a successful one Saturday morning by sweeping Columbia and Georgetown to retain the Fosburgh Cup. Princeton won all three races, including a comfortable victory in the first varsity showdown.
Princeton improved to 2-1 overall by winning the first varsity competition in 6:25.1. Georgetown finished second in 6:34.9 and Columbia placed third in 6:37.6. The first varsity win was the one that retained the Fosburgh Cup, but head coach Greg Hughes saw all four of his boats put forth strong showings. Princeton entered two teams into the 2V competition. The Tiger second varsity won in 6:40.2, topping second-place Georgetown (6:44.6). The Princeton third varsity finished in 6:54.6, which put the boat ahead of the Columbia 2V (6:56.6).
The Tiger freshman boat won a good battle against Georgetown in the first race of the competition. Princeton finished in 6:31.3, while Georgetown took second in 6:34.8. Columbia finished third in 6:43.7.
Princeton is off next weekend and will take on Cornell and Rutgers April 19 at Lake Carnegie.
