HUNTINGTON, W. Va. -- Max Schechter, at 1-over for the tournament, led Princeton's group at the Marshall Invitational Saturday as the Tigers finished tied for 11th in the 17-team field.
Schechter's 71 and 72 in two rounds played Saturday at the rain-shortened tournament put him in a 16th-place tie. Juan Pablo Candela had rounds of 75 and 74 to tie for 50th at +7, while Andrew Maliniak (76, 74) tied for 58th at +8 and Greg Stamas (71, 80) tied for 67th at +9 to complete Princeton's scoring foursome. Evan Harmeling tied for 80th at +11 with a 79 and 74.
Illinois won the tournament at -14, seven shots ahead of Penn State. Ohio State, Marquette, Rhode Island, Eastern Kentucky, William and Mary, Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio), and Ball State were the other teams in front of the Tigers, who finished tied with Richmond and Bowling Green at +19. Wright State, Ohio, Northern Illinois and Marshall rounded out the field. Penn State's Robert Rohanna won the individual title by two shots at -6.
Princeton will host its annual invitational at Springdale Golf Club next weekend.
