Tigers Conclude Second Day At ECAC/IC4A Meet

Strong performances in the distance events highlighted the first two days of action for the Princeton men's and women's track and field teams at the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships at Weaver Stadium.
The Tigers qualified runners for Sunday's 1,500-meter finals on both the men's and women's sides. For the men, David Nightingale had the third-best time of the day in 3:50.14, and he will run in the final at 12:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon. On the women's side, Liz Costello ran a 4:26.07 for the 1,500 meters, an NCAA regional qualifying time, and will run in Sunday's 12:15 p.m. final.
On the men's side, the Tigers also had some solid marks in the field events on Saturday. Both Alex Pessala and Craig Pearce finished among the top 10 competitors in the hammer throw, with Pessala's third-place toss reaching 205 feet and Pearce throwing a best of 192 feet, four inches. In the pole vault, Chad Faulkner cleared a regional qualifying mark of 16 feet, 6 3/4 inches and placed fourth in the event.
On Friday, both Liz Deir and Megan Brandeland had outstanding performances in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for Princeton. Deir's time was 10:45.19, while Brandeland's time was 10:47.44.
The Princeton men's 4X800-meter relay team also qualified for a Sunday final. They will run at 2:50 p.m. Sunday after finishing fourth in Saturday's trials in a time of 7:33.09.
