Men's Swimming Announces 2008-09 Captains, Team Award Winners
June 05, 2008 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Rising seniors Robert Griest, Doug Lennox and Will Schaffer, each of whom have been steady EISL contributors since they first stepped on campus, will serve as tri-captains for the 2008-09 Princeton men's swimming and diving team. The three will look to lead Princeton back to the top of the EISL championship race, where it has stood twice in the last three years.
Griest, a distance specialist, has been a member of the conference team every year since he came to Princeton. He has six top-five finishes at the EISL championships, including three second-place finishes (two in the 1000, one in the 1650). Lennox, who earned a berth on the 2008 Puerto Rican Olympic squad this past winter, is a two-time EISL champion and a 2008 All-America honoree. One year after winning the 2007 EISL 100 fly, Lennox captured the 200 fly at the 2008 championships and placed fourth in the event at the NCAA Championships. Lennox is a perfect 9-for-9 in reaching individual championship finals at the EISL championships. Schaffer has also been a consistent point-scorer at EISLs, where he has earned seven top-five finishes in his career. He has finished second to graduating Harvard All-America Geoff Rathgeber three times in his career and will look to earn his first league title in his final season.
While individual successes would be nice, the three will be looking to leave Princeton the same way they came in, as league champions. The three were instrumental in helping the Tigers to the 2006 and 2007 EISL championships by adding to the overall depth in the program, and they hope to lead the charge in 2009, when the championships come back to DeNunzio Pool.
